Reviews:
Otis Brown wasn't the biggest name on the Chicago scene of the 60s -- but during that decade, he cut some fantastic work for a variety of small labels -- and finally gets his due on this complete collection of his rare 45s! Although home to big labels like Chess, Vee Jay, and One-Der-Ful, Chicago also had countless small imprints back in the day -- great companies who let singers like Otis really open up and do their thing -- working in the shadows of the bigger groups and names, but with a quality level that would have made them huge, had they been in smaller cities where they might have gotten bigger exposure. That's definitely the case here with Otis Brown -- a singer who's wonderful on heartbreaking cuts with a mellow groove, but who can also soar on more upbeat numbers too -- served up here in a variety of rare material recorded for the Ole, Lujana, and Expect More labels -- presented here as the first full-length package to focus on his music. Titles include "The Willie Bop", "I Don't Wanna Cry", "Southside Chicago", "Whatever You Do Do It Good", "You Girl", "Find Somebody New", "Mama Don't Allow Now Loving IN Here", "What Would You Do", "Who's Gonna Take Me Home", "I'm Ready For Love", and "Sound Of The Wind".
