Reviews:
“Miss Thauer’s tone has considerable range. It is not basically as golden as some others (though it is always good) but its quality suits the frequent vigour of her attack, it can be beautifully withdrawn (as around bar 150 of the first movement) and when she is accompanying a woodwind tune she scales it down almost to nothing at all, yet manages to keep the figuration perfectly clear. Her technique is triumphant so the most difficult double-stopping at speed is perfectly tuned and completely assured.
This is such an interesting and refreshing performance that without in the least underestimating the wonderful accounts of the concerto we already have, this is so different that direct comparison seems unnecessary and my description of its character, incomplete though it is, may be more helpful. At the very least this is an ideal second version for any library.
Anja Thauer’s performance of the Dvorak Cello Concerto is marred by a moment or two of precariousness in high-lying passages, but her tone-quality is pungently individual and she is supported by strikingly crisp and precise playing from the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Zdenek Macal in a performance of pronouncedly Slavonic character.” The Gramophone magazine
