Reviews :

This truly intimate and personal acoustic jazz album was recorded 'off the floor' with no overdubs, displaying a wonderful spontaneous fusion of spirit. The David Piltch and Aaron Davis duo has been appreciated by audiophiles since their early '90s performances as part of the Holly Cole Trio, in the classic album Don't Smoke in Bed and Girl Talk. Released on vinyl for the first time

Canadian bassist David Piltch and his compatriot, pianist Aaron Davis, are both long-standing members of the Holly Cole Trio. In 1996, they recorded their first album together live with fellow musicians, including David's brother, the accomplished guitarist Rob Piltch, Mark Kelso (drums) and Kevin Breit (guitar), also a member of the Holly Cole Band. Piltch and Davis composed most of the songs on “Take One” – either individually or together. The intimate and very personal acoustic jazz album was recorded “off the floor” without overdubs and demonstrates the exceptionally harmonious interplay between these two songwriters. Whether they perform as a duo, with Davis on piano and Piltch on acoustic bass, or play as a whole group, their dedication to the “spirit of ensemble music” is clearly evident in this high-end analog recording. The album is rounded off by a cover version of Steve Earle, “Kirsty MacColl's Last Day Of Summer” and the traditional folk song “Black Is The Color (Of My True Love's Hair)”.

“Take One” is now available on vinyl for the first time! For this sonically impressive 2xHD double LP, the original recording was specially mastered completely in analog (AAA), cut on tube equipment at Bernie Grundman Mastering and pressed on high-quality 180-gram vinyl (33 RPM).

René Laflamme, one of the most sought-after sound engineers in the industry, used high-quality Nagra equipment for the mastering. 2xHD, which he runs together with André Perry, founder of the famous “Le Studio” in Québec, enjoys an excellent reputation and has rightly acquired an exceptional status in the high-end world. Laflamme's unique sound engineering skills are valued by many important players in the industry: for example, he represents and advises sound pioneers such as Nagra and Kronos Audio.
